Description

For Project Designer design topic we are to create a couture design for hillbillies. Who cares if you get elimanated...as long as you go out with a bang.

I was excited by the interesting challenge, then I wound up really enjoying it.
My interpretation of couture is creating a very original, high fashion garment less concerned with wearability, but vision. So I designed with that in mind. Furthermore, it was an awesome opportunity to really let my creativity flow without restraint.

To create the hillbilly look I incorporated familiar materials: weathered denim overalls/jeans, gingham flannel, hankercheif, cowboyboots. I also included straw, burlap, and reseted fishing pants. These gave me the overall feel I was looking for that really southern(and hey, I'm in the south). Other luxurious materials I wanted to include were fine jersey, veil, lamb wool and satin. The melding of these various material in the skirt was really appealing and fashion-forward to me. It has the resemblance of a textiles piece. You can also see a raccoon tail. Road kill?

And with that, my couture piece is modern and edgy; It's a design I love and my most ambitious to date!

And this is exactly what High-Fashion is made out of. To be a truly amazing designer, you must think outside the box of normal fashion, and normal clothes.

This design has edge, it's bold and daring. Busy, loud, and complex, although it is somehow quite simple at the same time.

I love the feel of this artwork, the "model" seems very down-to-earth, and she has a certain air about her.

I get the feeling from her that she isn't necessarily poor, but she isn't necessarily middle-class either, but she is happy with what she has.

The feeling is as though she sees other girls wearing those expensive high-fashion outfits, those $300 dresses that they throw out after they wear once.. and she wants to be like them-- or even spite them, so she designed her own, and she wears it with pride.

Meh, I'm rambling now, what I'm really saying, is lovely lovely design, and you have beautiful art. I applaud you. :D
